The “1+1+1” joint seed fund pool has officially launched recently at Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (UIC), marking a significant collaboration between the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province, UIC, and Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). Over 140 individuals attended the event in person and online, including UIC President Prof Chen Zhi and HKBU President and Vice-Chancellor Prof Alexander Wai.
The “1+1+1” joint funding scheme, set to run from 2024 to 2026, will see each party contribute annually: The Department of Science and Technology with RMB 10 million, and UIC and HKBU with no less than RMB 10 million and HKD 10 million respectively. The cumulative seed fund over the three years will amount to approximately RMB 90 million. This fund will be used to deepen tech cooperation, with a focus on research in strategic areas such as data science, artificial intelligence, and interdisciplinary applications.
UIC Vice President (Research and Development) Prof Pan Jianxin outlined the cooperation plan for researchers from both institutions, including the project management process, the joint research teams, and the criteria for project evaluation. UIC President Prof Chen Zhi said that UIC will continue deepening its research cooperation with HKBU, aligning with national development strategies and responding to significant technological societal needs. This joint funding scheme will further promote innovation cooperation between Guangdong and Hong Kong, laying the groundwork for enhanced cooperation in scientific and technological innovation.
Prof Lyu Aiping, Vice-President (Research and Development) at HKBU, noted that the launch of the pool has opened a new chapter in research cooperation between the two institutions, marking a significant step towards academic development, technological innovation, and societal progress.

粵港高校「1+1+1」聯合資助計劃項目啟動會早前在北師港浸大（UIC）舉行。 北師港浸大校長陳致教授和香港浸會大學校長衞炳江教授等兩校代表出席啟動會，約140餘人出席。
今年5月，廣東省科學技術廳、北師港浸大和浸大簽署《關於共同支持開展深度科技合作的工作計劃》合作協定。在2024年至2026年期間，三方以「1+1+1」聯合資助的形式，即省科技廳、北師港浸大及浸大三方每年各自投入不少於1000萬港元，三年投入共計約9000萬元人民幣設立種子資金池，以開展深度科技合作，優先資助數據科學、人工智慧及跨學科應用等策略性領域的研究。
在項目啟動會上，北師港浸大副校長（研究和拓展）潘建新教授在啟動會上，詳細介紹了該計劃的專案管理流程、聯合研究團隊組成、申報專案評審標準等內容。北師港浸大陳致校長表示，北師港浸大將不斷深化與浸大的科研合作，配合國家發展戰略，響應國家的重大科技需求，以開展兩校聯合資助計劃專案為重要抓手，在科研團隊訪問交流、人才聯合培養、關鍵技術聯合攻關、聯合實驗室共建、學術研討等方面切實推動粵港科技創新合作，為粵港兩地科技創新的深度合作打開新局面。
浸大副校長（研究及拓展）呂愛平教授則在啟動會上指出，此次聯合資助計劃專案的標誌著兩校在推動學術發展、科技創新和社會進步方面邁出了堅實的一步。
