Today marks the official launch of “Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) and Elsevier – Evolving Legacy: Decoding the Scientific Trajetory of Chinese Medicine”, a landmark report by Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) and Elsevier, showcasing traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) research’s interdisciplinary impact and real-world influence, advocating international clinical guidelines, rigorous trials, and cross-border collaboration.
Key Insights on TCM Papers:
🔹 ~3x increase in global English-language publications (2014-2023)
🔹 14.2% in the global top 10% highly cited publications
🔹 Citations span medicine (46.8%), biochemistry, genetics and molecular biology (32.5%), pharmacology, agricultural and biological, engineering, neuroscience, and more
🔹 Social media discussions (11.1%); Patent citations (5.6%); Policy citations (2.9%)
Professor Alex Wai (President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU) highlighted the University’s commitment to advancing Chinese medicine through research, teaching, and global standardisation, modernisation, and internationalisation, showcasing its interdisciplinary impact in digital health and systems medicine.
